How to make a cool dark metallic text gradient effect in Adobe Photoshop.

1.
Start with a 50 percent gray background layer, then make an empty layer to put the text in.

With the text tool type in the text you want to add this effect to.
Use a default color, we will change it later on.

In the layers panel double click the text layer to get to the layers style panel, and give it settings as shown below.

And finally

And you are done.
As you can see this effect is mostly based on layers styles and gradients, so it pretty straigh forward.
