How to make a cool shiny pill capsule in photoshop
In this tutorial you will learn how to make a stylish pill capsule, using different techniques, such as gradients and layers blending mode.
This time we are going to make a capsule, a pill capsule or what ever you want it to contain, here it goes.
1.
First of all the shape for such a capsule is kind of custom, so we a going to merge together 3 shapes to use as one shape.
Go grab the ellipse tool from the tool box panel and draw in 2 ellipses exact the same size and place the on just above the other as shown below.
2.
Now with the rectangular tool draw in a shape in top of the ellipses, so they all together looks like a capsule, look at my image below.
3.
Then we are going to merge those three elements together to one layer, so if you go to the layers panel and click on the small eye next to the layer of the background, so the background is invisible, then right click on on of the other layers, and choose merge visible, and then click the eye again to show the background.
4.
Hold down ctrl while clicking your capsule layer to get its selection, then get your gradient tool from the tool box and define a gradient like the image below shows.
5.
Drag inside the selection from left to right so it looks like the image below.
6.
Go to the layers style panel for the capsule layer and give it a stroke with black color and about 2px width, and a drop shadow with some default settings, then a bevel and emboss with setting like the image below.
7.
Now we are going to give it some color, so make a new layer, hold down ctrl and click the capsule to get the selection again, then grab the ellipse selection tool and set the selection mode to intersect with selection and do a selection as the image below.
8.
Then go to selection -> modify -> contract and set it to about 5px, then fill the selection with the color you feel like, I used light green, just hold down shift while hit the backspace button and choose a color.
9.
Now set the blending mode for the new layer in the layers panel to color burn, and go to filters -> blur -> gaussian blur and set it to about 5.
10.
Now that was the basic shape, now we are going to play a little with the texture.
So set back the back and for color for your pallet to black and white, then make a new layer and go to filters -> rendere -> clouds then go to filters -> rendere -> fibers and set it as the image below.
11.
Hold down ctrl and click the capsule layer to get the selection then go to selection -> invert and hit delete button, so the new layers graphic is only shown within the borders of the capsule.
12.
Now set the new layers blending mode to color burn and scale down its opacity to about 20%
13.
Now make a new layer and hold down ctrl and click the capsule layer again, then choose the ellipse selection tool again with its mode set to intersect with selection, then make a selection like in the image below. Then go to selection -> modify -> smooth and set it to about 20
14.
Then fill the selection with white color, and set its opacity down to about 40% and give it a gaussian blur to about 7.
That's it, now you can create a folder in your layers panel and put in all the layers then rotate, scale or put it in perspective as you like.
