In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial you will see how to make a great glowing, colorful, crystal flower effect from scratch.

1.
With a black background layer and a new empty layer to work with, with your brush tool make a elliptical bit dot as in the image below.

Go to filters -> liquify and with the tools on your left, drag the elliptical shape so it shapes like a flower leaf of what you want, see my result in the image below.

Now hold down ctrl and click the new shape layer in the layers panel to load the selection.
Go to Select -> feather and type in 20, (depends on the size of your shape), now hit delete to delete the content of your selection. And you should end up with this.

Go to filters -> blur -> gaussian blur and blur it about 1 just to soften the edges.

With your move tool hold down the alt key and drag the shape a bit to the right, by doing this you make a copy of the shape, as I did in the image below.

Move it a bit up, and rotate it, with the free transform tool.
edit -> free transform. Do this four times.

Now in the layers panel hold down the ctrl key and click all the shapes layers, (not the background layer) and right click, choose merge layers, to merge all of them together.

Make a copy of the shape layer, and go to edit -> transform -> flip horizontal, then move the layer in so it half overlaps the other layer like in the image below.

Right click the top shape layer and choose merge down to merge the two layers together.

With the magic wand tool click outside the shape to get the inverse of the shape selection, then hold down ctrl and shift and press i, to make it the shape selection. (the reason we cant do a normal load of the shape selection is that its feathered).

Make a new empty layer above the other layer.
Make a crazy colorful gradient and drag it inside the selection so it looks like in the image below.

Now in the layers panel set the color layers blending mode to soft light, so you can see the shape underneath.
Double click the color layer to get to the layer style panel and set it as in the image below. This should give it a light outer glow.

And you are done with this great little effect.
